What we do



  • “Cataract- free municipality” project

    We conduct surveys in all panchayats to detect cataracts. Cataract surgeries are subsequently performed free of cost for those in need of this service. Al Salama Eye ResearchFoundation has conducted more than 5000 free cataract surgeries.

  • Blood donor’s directory

    ASERF conducts surveys in order to facilitate a directory of blood donors for free access by the needy.

  • Mobile Ophthalmic Unit

    ASERF’s “Mobile Ophthalmic Unit” travels through small towns and villages conducting eye screening for the general public. Those who are identified with eye problems are referred to Al Salama Eye Hospitals and detailed check up and treatments are done at discount rates.

  • Free Diabetic Retinopathy camps

    Diabetes affects the retina of the eye and may cause serious complications like hemorrhage which leads to blindness. ASERF conducts free DR screening camps. People diagnosed with DR are sent to the hospital for detailed check up and are entitled to get specialized treatment at discount rates.

  • Free eye screening camps

    Cataracts are one of the main reasons for avoidable blindness, yet many do not receive treatment due to lack of awareness and socioeconomic factors. ASERF conducts free eye screening camps to detect cataract and other ocular problems, after which surgeries are done free of cost.

  • Community outreach program

    Implementation of NPCB in coordination with District Blindness Society is done by conducting cataract screening and free surgeries are done by Al Salama Eye Research Foundation.


  • Participation in Vision 2020 – the right to sight program of WHO

    Al Salama Eye Research Foundation is a member of Vision 2020 – a program by WHO to eliminate treatable blindness from the world. ASERF conducts programs like cataract screening camps, awareness classes, rallies etc. to make the vision true.

  • Free Glaucoma screening camps

    Glaucoma disease reduces the patient’s field of vision silently such that the patient recognizes the problem only at the critical stage. ASERF conducts Glaucoma awareness programs including classes and rallies.

  • School screening camps

    It is crucial that eye problems are identified early to avoid childhood blindness. ASERF is counseling and training teachers to identify students who have vision problems. The identified students are directed to the hospital for detailed evaluation and treatment.

  • Eye Donation fortnight

    Al Salama Eye Research Foundation conducts “Nethradaana Sandesa Yaathra” in Malappuram district in coordination with Police Association to create awareness among people about eye donation programs.

  • CME (Continuing Medical Education)

    Seminars and classes are frequently conducted to educate doctors and optometrists about the recent trends in the field of Ophthalmology.

  • Educational sponsorship to the underprivileged students

    ASERF provides educational sponsorships for the education of underprivileged students to catalyze socio-economic change in India.

Al Salama Eye hospital, Perinthalmanna and Al Salama Eye hospital, Calicut are super specialty tertiary care eye hospitals institutions with the objective of providing world class ophthalmic care service to the public at affordable costs. Both the hospitals are well equipped and have highly qualified, internationally trained doctors and Para medical staff to provide excellent eye care. The support extended so far from the public as well as various Government and Non Government organizations have helped in the phenomenal growth of the hospitals as leading eye hospitals in the country.

Since inception, Al Salama Eye Research Foundation has been helping the poor and the needy with educational advancement and skill improvement in various fields of study through various courses.

The Eye Foundation is a partner in vision 2020 Initiative in India. We are also working in partnership with the National Program for Prevention of Blindness to eradicate preventable blindness in India (NPCB).ASERF also conducts community outreach programs, population based surveys, free medical camps, eye surgeries, cataract surgeries to the
poor and needy people.
